There are two Your Own Island bonus features available within the game, and a bonus buy option if you’re outside of the UK. It makes for a relatively enjoyable experience, but it can be monotonous without the bonuses triggering.

Free Spins

To trigger the Free Spins feature, you need to land a scatter on the odd-numbered reels. It awards 10 spins, which can’t be retriggered. On each of the free spins, one reel is chosen to be completely wild, which can boost the win potential for each spin.

Hold and Win

If you land at least 6 of the Sea Breeze symbols on the reels at the same time, it triggers the Hold and Win feature. All Sea Breeze symbols are sticky as the round starts. You get 3 respins to begin, and each time you land another symbol, it also becomes sticky and resets the respin counter.

The symbols are worth between 1 and 500x your stake when they land, and filling the reels awards 5,000x your stake, plus the value of all symbols. The round continues until you run out of respins or manage to completely fill the reels. You can trigger the feature from within the Free Spins.

Your Own Island has a gentle feel in place, but there’s not enough happening to make up for the low maximum win.

The bonus features in Your Own Island are okay. However, they don’t trigger often enough to make up for the slightly boring base game. It stops it from being a more interesting game, as there’s a lot of waiting for the bonuses to begin. The theme is decent, and it does a good job of setting the scene, but it’s not enough to make this a must-play game.

The main sticking point for me is the maximum win. I could handle some of the issues here if there were a higher top payout. As it stands, 6,000x the stake just doesn’t grab my attention the way other games do. It’s a shame, as Yggdrasil has obviously worked hard to make Your Own Island look and sound good. I just wish the gameplay and payouts matched that level of hard work.
