Ainsworth has kept things as simple as usual as far as the design of Pussy Cat goes. The reels include A to 9 symbols as well as objects relating to the feline theme. They include toys, bells and balls of wool. Each of these pays 0.2, 1.6 or 4 times your total stake if you land 3, 4 or 5 on a payline.
The cartoon cat comes next, paying 0.2, 2 or 6 times your stake. The mechanical mouse is the best of the standard symbols, paying 0.2, 2.4 or 8 times your stake for a 3, 4 or 5 symbol combination. There’s also a gold fish which is the base game wild.
The most rewarding symbol is the paw print scatter. Land 3, 4 or 5 of these anywhere on the same spin and you’ll pocket an award of 2, 20 or 50 times your stake. Landing 3 scatters also triggers the Free Games feature. If you land 2, you’ll receive a respin with the 2 scatters locking in position, giving you another shot at landing the all-important third.
Once triggered, you’ll receive 8 free spins. Joining the action here is a second wild, the silver fish which can hit on the middle 3 reels. Whenever either of the fish wilds forms part of a winning combination, the payout receives a multiplier boost of between 1x and 6x. Land more than 1 wild and the multipliers are combined. This is a fairly typical Ainsworth slot. The design isn’t the classiest you’ll see and the gameplay is pretty straightforward. The Free Games feature has its charms thanks to the wild multipliers. We don’t like the way Ainsworth always seems to reduce the paytable in the bonus round though. The variance is in the medium range.
If you’re a feline lover, then Pussy Cat is worth a look. For the rest of us, there’s not really enough on offer here to make Pussy Cat a must-play. I would much rather try my luck with IGT’s Cats, for example.
